Introduction
Gilles Dufour joined Balmain in 1998 to lead diffusion ready-to-wear and licence studios after Andrew Gn’s departure. He left in 2000 after approximately three seasons, while Oscar de la Renta remained responsible for haute couture.
Design ethos
Dufour’s role belonged to Balmain’s commercial ready-to-wear and licence architecture. It should not be merged with de la Renta’s couture authorship or treated as authority over every licensed product.
