Introduction
Hsiu Wei Wu, who works under the name hlz.wg, is a Taiwanese conceptual graphic artist and co-founder of Professor.E. Wu contributes to the label’s image system through campaign concepts, scene design, graphic direction and lookbook production, helping establish the masked Professor E persona as a continuous visual presence rather than a conventional model or designer portrait.
Wu’s documented work for the house includes the staging and visual development of its Autumn/Winter 2021 presentation and later special projects. In 2025, Wu conceptualised Residual Silk, the Professor.E exclusive for Dover Street Market Singapore, which built a campaign and capsule around reclaimed Chinese raw-silk storage bags.
The role sits between graphic design, spatial narrative and collection interpretation. Rather than treating the image as a promotional layer added after the clothes, Wu’s work helps organise the fictional history, damaged surfaces and anonymous figures through which Professor.E presents its material research.
Design ethos
Wu works through atmosphere, sequencing and material association. Campaigns use covered faces, staged environments and restrained graphic systems to hold together Professor.E’s references to historical travel, fictional archives and textile erosion without converting them into literal costume narratives.
The visual language gives irregular fabric and construction room to remain legible. Sparse settings, controlled darkness and object-led scenes support the garments’ repair, dyeing and asymmetry, while special projects such as Residual Silk begin with the history of a found material and build the image around its previous function.
