Introduction
Iuliia Ievdokymenko is a Ukrainian-born, Bali-based designer and co-founder of L’IDÉE. Trained originally in biology, she moved into fashion and art projects before the label’s formation, including work connected to an established Ukrainian fashion business and projects in Berlin and Paris. Her scientific background and interest in vintage dress informed an approach to clothing built around material behaviour, pattern efficiency and the physical transformation of cloth.
Ievdokymenko co-founded L’IDÉE with Breeana Smith in 2019 and became the house’s head designer and principal production authority. She develops the patterns and pleat structures that define the collections and oversees the Indonesian production system from Bali, working with a specialist Jakarta pleating facility capable of permanently heat-setting polyester into ribbed, accordion, sunburst and umbrella formations. Her remit spans garment development, technical execution and the translation of Smith’s broader brand direction into finished collections.
Design ethos
Ievdokymenko designs from the properties of thermoplastic cloth. Polyester is cut and arranged so that heat-set folds provide structure, expansion and movement, allowing pleats to replace much of the conventional scaffolding of occasionwear. Fine ribbing can draw tightly around the body; wide umbrella folds open into volume; asymmetric and tiered constructions change shape as the wearer moves.
Her pattern work also responds to material efficiency. The design process begins before heat setting, with the geometry of the garment and pleat mould determining how much cloth is used and how off-cuts can be reduced or absorbed into development. As L’IDÉE has matured, she has extended the same system through shimmer, foil, mesh, sequins and layered surfaces, preserving the pleat as the house’s structural constant while changing its weight, opacity and scale.

Career history
2019
Ievdokymenko has led L’IDÉE’s garment design and production system since 2019. She develops the patterns and pleat structures and oversees the Bali and Indonesian manufacturing relationships that give the house its heat-set textile architecture.
2019
L’IDÉE began in 2019 under Breeana Smith and Iuliia Ievdokymenko. Smith developed the brand and commercial framework while Ievdokymenko built the garments and production system around specialist heat-set pleating in Indonesia.
