Introduction
Jackie Galleghan is an Australian fashion designer and the founder and creative director of madre natura. She trained at The Fashion Design Studio TAFE in Ultimo, graduating in 2011 after internships with Karla Spetic and Romance Was Born, where she gained early experience of local production and placement-print cutting. Over the following decade she worked across design and production at Australian labels including Marcs, David Lawrence, Jigsaw, Shona Joy, Assembly Label, SABA and Sportscraft, learning the mechanics of both domestic and offshore volume manufacturing.
In 2017 Galleghan began collecting deadstock fabrics for an independent project after confronting textile waste through both commercial fashion and earlier work at Vinnies. She registered the madre natura business name that year, then launched the label commercially with Chris Kiprovski in December 2020. Her work since has combined local Sydney production with circular aftercare, culminating in the 2024 Australian Fashion Week presentation The Last Season Collection, which sent the label's unsold 2023 garments back onto the runway, and a return to the AFW schedule through The Frontier in 2026.
Design ethos
Galleghan designs by beginning with material availability. Archived and repurposed fabrics set the scale of each run, encouraging a compact size structure, relaxed unisex grading and silhouettes that can absorb variation without requiring large inventories. Her wardrobe moves between fluid tailoring and casual Australian sportswear: bombers, wide trousers, knit tanks, boat-neck tops and dresses are sharpened with beading, silk organza, structured denim and carefully selected low-impact trims.
Production and aftercare are treated as extensions of pattern cutting. Galleghan works with a Sydney network of specialist makers and has built lifetime repairs, take-back and recycling into the label's operating structure. That attention to material duration also shapes the calendar: the 2024 decision to reshow existing stock at fashion week made inventory itself part of the creative proposition, while later collections continued to develop within the same local, limited-run framework.

Career history
2026
madre natura returned to Australian Fashion Week on 12 May 2026 through The Frontier, a Create NSW-supported group runway. The show presented current work by Galleghan alongside a cohort of emerging Australian labels and reinforced the brand's place in the national designer circuit.
2026
madre natura returned to the National Designer Award finalist cohort in 2026. The selection gave the label a third point of recognition in the award system after its 2023 sustainability honour and 2025 finalist place.
2025
madre natura appeared with mimmi in a collaborative runway during Melbourne Fashion Festival in March 2025. The presentation extended the label's public runway activity into Melbourne while preserving Galleghan's independent authorship of the madre natura garments.
2025
madre natura was selected as a finalist for the 2025 David Jones National Designer Award. The repeat recognition followed its 2023 sustainability honour and the visibility generated by the 2024 Australian Fashion Week debut.
2024
madre natura made its Australian Fashion Week debut at Carriageworks on 16 May 2024 with The Last Season Collection, a runway built from its existing 2023 Wish You Were Here 23 garments. Developed with Orphan and Greener and streamed through TikTok, the event turned unsold stock and live shopping into a public critique of fashion overproduction.
2023
By late 2023 madre natura was participating in the wider Australian discussion around Seamless, the national clothing product stewardship scheme. Galleghan's advocacy connected the label's repair, take-back and local production practices with emerging industry-wide responsibility for garments after sale.
2023
madre natura received the Honourable Mention for Sustainability at the David Jones National Designer Awards in March 2023. The recognition included a cash prize and mentorship with the David Jones sustainability team, bringing the label's circular production work into a national industry setting.
2022
madre natura opened a pre-loved resale channel with The Harmonic on 15 August 2022. The partnership extended the label's circular model from repair and material sourcing into the secondary life of finished garments.
2020
Galleghan has remained the principal design author of madre natura from its commercial launch. She directs collection development, fabric and trim selection, sampling and the label's local production and circular aftercare systems.
2020
madre natura entered active retail trading in December 2020 under Jackie Galleghan and Chris Kiprovski. The launch joined Galleghan's deadstock-led clothing with local Sydney production and a visual identity developed through Kiprovski's Cak Studio.
2017
In 2017 Jackie Galleghan began privately sourcing and archiving deadstock fabrics while working in commercial fashion. The material bank became the practical starting point for the label she would later launch as madre natura.
