Katayone Adeli

Katayone Adeli is an Iranian-born American fashion designer whose New York label emerged in the late 1990s. By 1999 she had built a substantial independent business around spare, wearable womenswear and had received national industry recognition, including a CFDA Perry Ellis Award nomination. Her collections became known for narrow trousers, dresses, knitwear and clean layers shaped for everyday city dressing.

After the first phase of her namesake company, Adeli moved between independent work, consulting and retail. Helmut Lang approached her in the period after Nicole and Michael Colovos left in 2014. She was brought in for a brief intervention focused on ready-to-wear and accessories and helped train an internal team before leaving. No formal creative-director title or securely bylined Helmut Lang seasonal collection has been established for this period.

Adeli’s Helmut Lang work sits within a longer career built around independent womenswear and behind-the-scenes design guidance.
