Introduction
Kazuhisa Komura is a Japanese fashion designer and the current Chief Brand Director of 5351 POUR LES HOMMES. Born in 1973 in Fukuoka Prefecture, he studied at Osaka University of Economics before joining ABAHOUSE INTERNATIONAL in 1998. His route into fashion came through the corporate studio instead of an independent namesake label, giving him a long view of 5351's product development, retail system and internal succession.
Komura became Chief Designer of 5351 in 2000 after Hideshi Maruya left ABAHOUSE. He inherited a label already defined by slim tailoring, leather, dark colour and rock references, and his task was continuity without stasis. Under his leadership 5351 shifted its presentation emphasis back towards Japan, formally returning to the Tokyo Collection in 2002 after the late-1990s Paris phase.
In 2008 the Chief Designer title passed to Koji Okamoto. Komura remained within ABAHOUSE after the Chief Designer title passed to Okamoto. In 2012 he was appointed Director of 5351 POUR LES HOMMES, restoring him to clearly defined principal brand authority after Okamoto's departure. ABAHOUSE now styles him Chief Brand Director and credits him with overall direction as well as planning and design, particularly woven and cut-and-sewn product.
Komura's later period makes the studio structure especially visible. Spring/Summer 2016 was described as the work of a four-person design team, while the official Spring/Summer 2020 feature paired Komura as Director with designer Ryoma Izumo. These records show that current 5351 authorship is led by Komura but distributed across an internal design organisation instead of assigned solely to one hand.
He remains the principal creative authority through the 2026 season, overseeing a brand that now presents through exhibitions, staged presentations, lookbooks and retail features as well as its historical runway archive. His tenure links the 2000 Tokyo return, the 2015–2016 runway revival and the current SPEAK FOR-based seasonal system within one continuous ABAHOUSE career.
Design ethos
Komura's central task has been evolution through continuity. He did not erase the leather, narrow tailoring and dark mode language established before his appointment; he refined their proportion, fabrication and commercial application so that the brand could move through different menswear cycles without losing recognition.
His work places material development close to product planning. Jacquard, processed leather, cut-and-sewn pieces and tailored separates are treated as parts of one wardrobe instead of isolated runway statements. This allows the same season to move from premium outerwear to more accessible tops and trousers while maintaining a coherent surface and silhouette.
Komura also operates through studio authorship. The presence of category designers and multi-person seasonal teams means direction is expressed through selection, editing and consistency as much as individual sketching. His current title reflects that broader responsibility: he shapes brand position and product architecture while remaining involved in design.
The current exhibition-and-lookbook system suits that approach. It prioritises seasonal product, fabrication and styling over the symbolic reset of a runway spectacle, allowing 5351 to preserve its long-standing codes while adjusting to ABAHOUSE's contemporary retail network and customer base.
