Introduction
Loris Messina is a French-born fashion designer and creative director who co-founded SUNNEI with Simone Rizzo in Milan in 2014. He studied marketing and economics and worked in visual merchandising at Gucci before developing the label without formal fashion-design training. SUNNEI began as direct-to-consumer menswear and expanded into co-ed ready-to-wear, accessories, objects, digital platforms and architectural spaces.
Messina and Rizzo directed the brand jointly until September 2025. Their collections paired clear, colourful product with runway formats that examined fashion’s systems of judgement and sale. On 21 June 2026, Aeffe appointed the duo co-creative directors of Moschino, where they succeeded Adrian Appiolaza and assumed responsibility for the house’s next collection.
Design ethos
Messina’s SUNNEI work joined architectural order to an instinctive approach to clothing. Broad volumes, simplified shapes, strong colour and modular product systems were developed as parts of a complete environment that included stores, exhibitions and digital interfaces.
His co-authorship with Rizzo avoided a fixed division between design and communication. Garments, sets, casting, music and audience behaviour were treated as one project, allowing the pair to use accessible clothing as the stable centre of more confrontational presentation formats.
