Lucie Meier

Lucie Meier is a Swiss designer whose career includes senior studio work at Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and Christian Dior before the later co-creative direction of Jil Sander with Luke Meier. At Dior she worked within Raf Simons’s women’s organisation and remained after his departure in October 2015.

During the 2015–2016 vacancy, contemporary coverage repeatedly named Meier and Serge Ruffieux as the studio heads and designers responsible for the women’s collections. They led Spring 2016 haute couture, Autumn/Winter 2016 ready-to-wear, Resort 2017 and Autumn/Winter 2016 haute couture before Maria Grazia Chiuri’s appointment on 8 July 2016. The period should be understood as publicly named interim stewardship, not a conventional permanent co-creative-director appointment.

Meier’s work joins couture discipline to lightness, tactility and movement. Reduced line is softened through fabric, hand finish and the way a garment sits against the body, allowing minimal form to carry emotional and material weight.

Her Dior interval demonstrated a practical form of authorship within an inherited studio: continuity depended on collective knowledge, but the collections still had named stewards. In later work with Luke Meier, restraint, proportion and specialised fabrication continued to place sensorial detail inside a controlled wardrobe.
