Introduction
Martin Andersson is a Swedish menswear designer, born in Olofström in 1976. He moved to London to study at Central Saint Martins, then worked for British labels including Hackett and Aquascutum while also developing an independent label of his own. In 2008 he joined COS, where he became head of menswear design and helped establish the brand’s functional, season-resistant approach to men’s clothing.
Theory introduced Andersson publicly as its new men’s creative director in July 2017, immediately before his Spring 2018 debut in New York. He brought a European minimalism into direct contact with American uniforms, workwear and performance fabrics, developing the category through relaxed tailoring, technical outerwear and material systems such as Good Wool and Good Linen.
Andersson remains Theory’s menswear creative director in 2026. His recent collections continue to refine clothing for urban movement through lightweight construction, washable or travel-oriented fabrics and controlled references to prep, workwear and mid-century sportswear, while his collaboration with womenswear head Dushane Noble has made the two studios more visibly connected.
Design ethos
Andersson works through archetypes: the blazer, uniform jacket, work trouser, shirt, knit and coat. Familiar pieces are adjusted through proportion and fabrication, allowing small changes in weight, stretch, texture or construction to carry the collection’s design argument.
Functionality remains central to his practice. His Theory menswear uses technical nylon, traceable wool, linen blends and performance finishes to make tailoring compatible with commuting, travel and changing climates, while colour and styling stay controlled enough for the material engineering to remain legible.

Career history
2024
Following Jeffrey Kalinsky’s departure, Theory moved into a category-led creative structure under Dushane Noble for women’s ready-to-wear and Martin Andersson for menswear. Their studios coordinate fabrics and wardrobe logic across the brand, with no publicly identified overall creative director above the two categories.
2017
Theory publicly introduced Martin Andersson as its new men’s creative director on 13 July 2017, immediately ahead of his Spring 2018 menswear debut. His continuing mandate has developed the category through workwear, relaxed tailoring, performance fabrics and a persistent urban-uniform logic.
