Introduction
Mathilde Castello Branco is a French fashion designer whose career includes work at Hermès under Martin Margiela, a long period at Lanvin alongside Alber Elbaz and later creative roles at Azzaro, Princesse tam.tam and Weill. She took charge of the Guy Laroche women’s studio around the turn of 2024–25 and was introduced publicly as the house’s new creative director in March 2025.
Her first Guy Laroche collection, Autumn–Winter 2025/26, was presented at the Hôtel de Crillon on 11 March 2025. Fourteen silhouettes could be recombined into twenty-eight outfits, and the project was made in France with the external Grain de Tailles atelier in Lyon.
Castello Branco remains the latest announced creative director. Her verified authority concerns the central Paris women’s ready-to-wear relaunch; current territory-labelled handbags, menswear, watches, eyewear, jewellery and fragrance are not uniformly credited to her.
Design ethos
Castello Branco builds wardrobes through transformation rather than excess. Reversible pieces, adjustable fastenings, matched accessories and garments that shift function give a compact collection several configurations without relying on a large look count.
Material and production are part of that economy. Flannel, light wool, plongé lambskin, silk mousseline and Japanese denim were developed through a short French manufacturing chain, while founder-era ideas such as the shirt dress were translated into present-day construction rather than copied as archive motifs.
