Introduction
Ocimar Versolato was a Brazilian fashion designer appointed to Lanvin women’s ready-to-wear in July 1995 on a three-year contract. He presented four public collections across 1996 and 1997 before the agreement ended early.
His Lanvin remit excluded menswear and the already closed historic couture programme. A separate 1996 eveningwear group for Bergdorf Goodman extended the work into a retailer-specific American programme without changing that category boundary.
Design ethos
Versolato worked through polished line, eveningwear and a measured sensuality shaped by fabric and cut. At Lanvin, the emphasis remained on women’s ready-to-wear even when formal dresses drew on his couture experience.
The clothes were strongest when finish and proportion carried the effect. Embellishment supported an adult, controlled wardrobe rather than turning every collection into an archival reprise.
