Introduction
Pascal Millet is a French fashion designer born in Paris and raised in Nevers. He studied at the Beaux-Arts in Dijon and the school of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne before beginning his professional career in the late 1980s. His early house experience included Balenciaga under Michel Goma and a long period at Givenchy, where he worked through the Hubert de Givenchy, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen eras.
Millet took creative direction of Carven in 2001 with responsibility for haute couture and ready-to-wear. He led the house for roughly six years, including its return to the official haute-couture calendar in 2006 and the final sourced couture presentations of 2007. The role placed him at the centre of Carven’s last substantial couture chapter before the 2008 ownership reset closed made-to-measure activity.
From 2009 Millet developed his own Paris label with collaborator Patrick Ney, returning to luxury womenswear under his own name. His later career has included runway collections, private and celebrity dressing, and a major donation of work to the fashion museum in Château-Chinon, including pieces from both his Carven years and his independent house.
Design ethos
Millet works from couture construction toward clothes that remain physically usable. He has repeatedly described an interest in beautiful materials, precise cut and garments that can be worn with ease, carrying the discipline of Balenciaga and Givenchy into contemporary ready-to-wear.
His own collections combine a Parisian evening sensibility with a restrained masculine edge in tailoring. Fabric, line and finish lead the composition, with decoration kept subordinate to silhouette. The same vocabulary supported his work at Carven, where couture technique and ready-to-wear had to coexist inside one house.
