Introduction
Paul Surridge is a British fashion designer whose career has included menswear roles at Burberry, Calvin Klein, Jil Sander and Z Zegna. Zegna announced him as Creative Director of Z Zegna in May 2011, succeeding Alessandro Sartori; his first securely credited runway collection was shown in Milan in January 2012.
Surridge led the line through its early-2010s phase before Zegna announced the integration of Zegna Sport in 2014. Later reporting identifies Fall/Winter 2014–15 as his final collection in the role. He subsequently worked independently and became Creative Director of Roberto Cavalli in 2017.
His Z Zegna record belongs to the secondary line; Stefano Pilati separately led the main Ermenegildo Zegna design office from 2013.
Design ethos
Surridge’s menswear combines close control of proportion with an interest in performance and movement. At Z Zegna, slim tailoring, technical outerwear and graphic layering sharpened the line’s distinction from the more formal mainline.
His work often uses utility as a way to clarify silhouette: fastenings, pockets, coated surfaces and sportswear construction are integrated without turning the collection into equipment. The result is precise and urban, with material innovation in service of the cut.
