Introduction
Peter Copping is a British fashion designer whose career has moved through Christian Lacroix, Iceberg, Sonia Rykiel, Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta and Balenciaga. Twelve years in the Louis Vuitton women’s studio under Marc Jacobs preceded his appointments at Nina Ricci and Oscar de la Renta, placing couture technique and international ready-to-wear at the centre of his practice.
Lanvin announced Copping as Artistic Director on 27 June 2024, effective from September, with responsibility for women’s and men’s collections. His co-ed Autumn/Winter 2025 debut on 26 January 2025 restored named artistic direction after the studio-led transition and began a sequence that now includes separate women’s and men’s presentations.
Design ethos
Copping works through controlled drape, precise cutting and the adjustment of historical dressmaking to a modern wardrobe. Fluid eveningwear sits beside tailored coats and day clothes, with surface and ornament generally supporting construction rather than replacing it.
Archive use in his work is selective and technical. At Lanvin, founder-era colour, decorative detail and couture proportion are filtered through present-day ease, while the women’s and men’s collections are treated as related wardrobes with distinct calendar needs.
