Introduction
Samantha Diorio is an Australian fashion designer and the founder of Ouse, a Sydney label centred on transformable, size-flexible clothing. The daughter of a dressmaker, she learned knitting and crochet through her family before studying fashion at the University of Technology Sydney. She later moved to New York for the MFA in Fashion Design and Society at Parsons, where her 2019 thesis examined the space between body and garment through a mutable tube silhouette. The work received the CFDA Geoffrey Beene Design Scholar Award and a $25,000 scholarship.
Diorio spent the following years refining the thesis into a functioning product system, using the pandemic period to test stretch, tension and repeat wear before establishing Ouse commercially in 2022. The label grew through Australian production, direct sales and international independent stockists, while the 2023 Nike FC Kit Couture project demonstrated how its modular patterns could absorb an external sportswear brief. In May 2026 Diorio presented Ouse at Australian Fashion Week for the first time with Kiss Me You Fool!, an eight-look runway within The Frontier at Sydney Theatre Company.
Design ethos
Diorio approaches pattern cutting as an engineering problem shaped by bodily change. Her recurring tube construction uses stretch, ruching and inversion to let one garment occupy several states, from fitted dress to bubble volume or from skirt to bag. The numbered 001, 002 and 003 families are successive refinements of this idea: the silhouette remains recognisable while fabric weight, lining, length and tension are recalibrated to alter function. Soft corsetry follows the same logic, using elastic materials and fit adaptability in place of rigid boning.
Her material decisions are closely tied to the mechanics of use. Regenerated ECONYL jersey supplies recovery and four-way stretch; Bemberg reduces friction against the skin; dead-stock silks and yarns introduce texture without requiring a new material cycle for every release. Diorio works with Australian makers and a pre-order model that permits close control over construction, particularly where small errors in seam tension or finishing could affect transformation. The seasonless structure keeps attention on refinement, wear and reconfiguration instead of replacing a successful pattern at each calendar turn.

Career history
2026
Ouse made its runway debut at Australian Fashion Week on 12 May 2026 within The Frontier at Sydney Theatre Company. The eight-look Kiss Me You Fool! presentation placed Diorio’s modular silhouettes in a darker runway setting and incorporated 3D-printed sound elements by Rose Guiffre.
2023
Nike FC invited Ouse to reinterpret the Canada national football team’s home and away kits for the 2023 Kit Couture project. Diorio adapted the label’s 001 and 002 constructions into dresses, bags, a bikini and convertible bloomers, testing the modular system against the visual and material constraints of football apparel.
2022
Diorio has remained Ouse’s principal designer from its commercial launch, directing the numbered 001, 002 and 003 garment systems and their extensions into accessories and bridal. Her role combines pattern development, material testing and the continual refinement of fit and transformability.
2022
Samantha Diorio established Ouse in Sydney in 2022 after several years of testing the transformable tube construction developed during her Parsons MFA. The new label paired that body-responsive design system with Australian manufacturing, pre-order production and a continuous numbered product architecture.
