Introduction
Samuel Drira is a fashion stylist and art director whose long-running collaboration with Hed Mayner began with the label’s Autumn/Winter 2015 debut. He styled the foundational collection and continued to shape the presentation of Mayner’s displaced tailoring and expansive silhouettes across later runway and image work.
Drira’s practice also includes fashion publishing through his association with Encens. Across editorial and styling work, he has developed a concise visual approach in which proportion, stance and the relationship between garments matter more than decorative staging; those concerns have made his contribution to Hed Mayner unusually continuous for an independent fashion house.
Design ethos
Drira’s styling for Hed Mayner gives the clothes room to express their altered balance. Layering is used to clarify differences of scale, garments are allowed to collapse or project away from the body, and poses preserve the off-centre stance built into Mayner’s patterns.
The work avoids forcing the collections into a fixed character. Tailoring, military pieces, knitwear and sportswear can remain familiar while their proportions create the tension, allowing the image to register volume, weight and body language before accessory or set-driven effects.
