Introduction
Sébastien Peigné is a fashion designer whose documented career includes approximately a decade at Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière and substantive authorship of Mugler womenswear during the house’s 2010 relaunch. Contemporary appointment material places him at Balenciaga from around 2000 and identifies him as head of the studio from 2006, although his earlier title sequence remains unresolved.
In September 2010 Peigné became Responsable de Création Femme, or Head Designer Women, at Mugler under Nicola Formichetti’s overall creative direction. Collection records repeatedly identify his responsibility for womenswear design, including fabric choice, tailoring development and the commercial translation of runway ideas. He left in the 19 April 2013 restructuring after the final Fall/Winter 2013–14 womenswear presentation.
Design ethos
Peigné’s Mugler work was rooted in line-level garment development. Reviews and credits distinguish his day-to-day womenswear responsibility from Formichetti’s broader image and communication role, making fabric, cut, tailoring and production negotiation central to his authorship.
The collections moved from the aggressive silhouette of the 2011 relaunch towards resort, pre-fall, handbags and a more continuous commercial wardrobe. That progression shows a designer working through both spectacle and delivery: maintaining a sharpened house line while adapting it to showroom product and licensed production.

Career history
2013
On 19 April 2013 Mugler confirmed the departures of Sébastien Peigné and Romain Kremer and named Thierry Mugler a non-decision-making creative adviser to executive Joël Palix. The change ended the three-part design structure and opened an unresolved interim before David Koma’s appointment.
2010
Peigné held substantive responsibility for Mugler womenswear from the September 2010 relaunch through the April 2013 restructuring. Collection evidence attributes fabric, tailoring and day-to-day garment development to him within Formichetti’s broader creative and image direction.
2000
Peigné worked alongside Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga for approximately ten years and was identified as head of the studio from 2006. The evidence supports senior studio leadership but not independent public co-authorship of Balenciaga collections.
