Introduction
Zhu Chongyun is a Chinese fashion entrepreneur and designer who founded Shenzhen Marisfrolg in 1993 and developed it into a multi-brand womenswear group. Her education included electronic engineering, and her career joined design with manufacturing, retail and brand development. After two decades building Marisfrolg, she launched the ZHUCHONGYUN label in 2013 as a more explicitly authored fashion project.
In 2014 Zhu became the central figure in Krizia's transfer from its founder-led Italian ownership to Marisfrolg. She was announced as future chairman and creative director in February, became chair of Krizia International when the acquisition closed on 10 June, and presented her first completed Krizia collection in Milan on 28 February 2015. The relaunch placed her in the difficult position of leading a historic Milan house while operating it inside a Chinese fashion group.
Zhu initially held direct collection authorship, then worked through a more visibly delegated design structure. By Autumn/Winter 2017–18 Antonio D'Anna was the collection designer and later publicly identified head of design, while Zhu retained creative or art direction. Their work returned repeatedly to the Krizia archive through pleating, experimental fabrics, feline imagery and architectural construction.
Current Krizia company material continues to identify Zhu as president and creative director. Her wider group also operates the ZHUCHONGYUN label and other fashion businesses, with Krizia serving as its principal Italian heritage acquisition. Her role therefore combines fashion authorship, brand stewardship and ownership-side leadership across Chinese and Italian contexts.
Design ethos
Zhu's namesake work is framed around a restrained form of contemporary Chinese design. The ZHUCHONGYUN label draws from nature, art, philosophy and traditional cultural references, translating them through clean lines, controlled volume and a subdued approach to ornament. Material quality and surface carry much of the visual weight.
Her first Krizia collections used a more architectural vocabulary, with firm shapes and a measured futurist quality. The approach acknowledged Mandelli's history through construction and material experiment while establishing a new authorship for the post-2014 house. Archive reference remained selective and was increasingly mediated through the design team.
Under the later Zhu–D'Anna structure, creative direction operated through conversation, archive selection and material development. Historic pleats were softened into fluid fabrics, animal imagery returned through print and placement, and plastics moved from accessories into embroidery and garment surfaces. The work treated Krizia's archive as a set of techniques and visual cues that could be reworked for a contemporary wardrobe.
Across her own label and Krizia, Zhu favours controlled silhouettes, tactile fabrics and a close relationship between clothing and art. Her practice also depends on organisational scale, allowing specialist design teams and production resources to carry different brand identities while she retains a high-level creative direction.

Career history
2020
Krizia International launched K Krizia in 2020 as a contemporary womenswear line aimed at a younger customer alongside the main collection. The line developed its own sequence of completed fashion galleries from Spring/Summer 2021 through Spring/Summer 2025 under the successor company’s creative direction.
2019
Krizia left its historic Via della Spiga 23 boutique in September 2019, four years after the post-acquisition redesign and reopening. The closure reduced the house’s visible Milan retail presence while Krizia International continued to operate and produce collections.
2017
Spazio Krizia returned to regular cultural use in March 2017 during the post-sale rebuilding of the house. The reactivation restored the Via Manin venue as a setting for exhibitions and public events while reconnecting the successor company with one of Mandelli’s durable cultural structures.
2015
Krizia reopened its historic Via della Spiga 23 boutique in September 2015 after an architectural redesign by Vincenzo De Cotiis. The renewed store became the most visible Milan retail expression of the early post-acquisition relaunch.
2015
Zhu Chongyun presented her first completed Krizia collection in Milan on 28 February 2015 for Autumn/Winter 2015–16. The debut established active post-sale collection authorship and opened the successor house’s first full creative phase under her direction.
2014
Krizia now. Looking back, going forward marked the house’s sixtieth anniversary at Palazzo Litta in Milan in September 2014. The transition project introduced Zhu Chongyun’s new authority through an archive-facing exhibition and established the visual context for the post-acquisition relaunch.
2014
The sale of Krizia was announced on 24 February 2014 and completed on 10 June, when Marisfrolg Fashion (Hong Kong) acquired all shares in Krizia International S.r.l. for US$35 million. The transaction ended Mariuccia Mandelli’s operating control and placed the historic house under Marisfrolg ownership with Zhu Chongyun leading the new creative phase.
2014
Zhu Chongyun was announced as Krizia’s future chairman and creative director on 24 February 2014 as Marisfrolg prepared to acquire the house. She became the continuing creative authority of the successor operation, later working through a design team while retaining company-level creative direction into the current Krizia operation.
