Overview
Born in Gradara in 1950, Alberta Ferretti grew up surrounded by fabrics in her mother’s tailoring shop in Cattolica, Italy, where she developed a passion for clothing construction and materials. At 18 she opened Jolly Shop, a boutique for her own designs, and by 1974 had launched a collection under her own name. With her brother Massimo, she co‑founded the Aeffe S.p.A. fashion group in 1980 and debuted at Milan Fashion Week the following year with a romantic, feminine collection.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s the brand expanded internationally, establishing showrooms in Milan, Paris, London and New York and opening monobrand boutiques around the world.
In September 2024 Ferretti stepped down as creative director, remaining vice‑president of Aeffe, and entrusted the design reins to Lorenzo Serafini Serafini unveiled his debut collection in February 2025, melding his fresh sensibility with the maison’s codes of lightness, femininity and individuality Under his direction the label aims to balance Ferretti’s heritage of fluid drapery, lace and chiffon with modern ease and sustainable considerations.
The house continues to produce ready‑to‑wear and bridal lines and collaborates with artisans across Italy, emphasising craft, romanticism and a contemporary vision of femininity. Today Alberta Ferretti stands as part of the Aeffe group with a global retail presence and a legacy of Italian glamour.
Philosophy
Alberta Ferretti’s philosophy has always celebrated a uniquely Italian vision of femininity that is tender yet resilient. The designer’s early years amid her mother’s atelier taught her to respect the human hand and to prioritise the comfort and grace of the wearer. Her collections became known for their languid silhouettes, meticulous draping and delicate embellishments—clothes that move with the body and illuminate the spirit. Ferretti favoured silk chiffon, lace and tulle, employing soft colour palettes and floral motifs that evoke modern romanticism.
With Lorenzo Serafini now at the helm, that ethos evolves toward a dialogue between past and future Serafini’s vision blends the house’s poetic signature with contemporary versatility, honouring the heritage while introducing an effortless, youthful energy. The brand emphasises lightness and fluidity, but also commits to responsible production within the Aeffe group, exploring sustainable fabrics and ethical supply chains.
Its philosophy centres on empowering women through garments that express romance without fragility and luxury without ostentation. By valuing craftsmanship, innovation and inclusivity, Alberta Ferretti continues to craft clothing that tells stories of romance, freedom and modern womanhood.
