Overview
Diesel Black Gold was launched in 2008 as Diesel’s premium designer line. Its first recovered runway collection, Fall/Winter 2008, was presented in New York under the wider creative direction of Wilbert Das and a dedicated design team. The line developed its own business unit, runway calendar and creative succession.
Sophia Kokosalaki was appointed to lead womenswear in June 2009, beginning with Fall/Winter 2010 and ending with Spring/Summer 2013. Andreas Melbostad succeeded her for womenswear in October 2012, then became line-wide Creative Director on 6 September 2013 with responsibility for menswear and global image.
The last recovered public runway was Fall/Winter 2018, followed by showroom and lookbook evidence into 2019. Diesel’s official archive describes the line as no longer available, but no verified closure date or final commercial season has been recovered.
Philosophy
Diesel Black Gold moved the parent brand’s denim, leather and biker vocabulary into a more concentrated runway proposition. The work used sharper tailoring, treated surfaces and hardware-led construction while maintaining a visible connection to industrial casualwear.
Its creative history was category-specific. Womenswear and menswear did not always share the same lead, and the line’s later combined shows followed a staged expansion of Melbostad’s authority rather than a single unchanged mandate from launch.
