Overview
Marie Adam-Leenaerdt is a Brussels-based fashion label launched by Belgian designer Marie Adam-Leenaerdt after graduating from La Cambre in 2020. Following early experience at major houses including Givenchy and Balenciaga, she presented her first Paris show in March 2023, introducing a practice focused on everyday garments rethought through structure, conversion and precise understatement.
The brand is defined by pieces that shift purpose: coats that unfasten into alternative shapes, tailoring that toggles between jacket and dress, and accessories that behave like garments. Collections tend to avoid overt branding, relying instead on crisp construction, controlled volumes and a pared palette that foregrounds the mechanism of the clothes. Profiles of the label describe a “quiet” but rigorous approach, where humour arrives through function and a slightly off-kilter logic rather than spectacle.
Built as an independent studio, the project positions transformation as a practical proposition—clothes designed to adapt, travel and reconfigure without losing polish or clarity.
Philosophy
Adam-Leenaerdt treats design as research into the latent possibilities of familiar objects and wardrobe forms. The brand’s point of view is deconstructive without being distressed: it asks what a trench, a bag, or a tailored coat can become when their parts are re-ordered, flipped, or reassigned.
Within this, restraint is the engine. The clothes are intended to look almost ordinary at first glance, with the conceptual work embedded in closures, seams and conversion systems. Rather than presenting provocation as shock, the label frames it as a small disruption to habit—an invitation to notice construction, utility and the choreography of getting dressed. Independence is central to that stance, allowing the studio to privilege a singular logic over trend timing.
The outcome is a wardrobe that values surprise, adaptability and precision, leaving space for the wearer’s own narrative to complete the idea over time and across contexts.
