Introduction
Ashlynn Park is a South Korean designer and pattern cutter based in New York. Born in Seoul, she studied fashion in South Korea before completing advanced training at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo. After winning the SO-EN Award in 2008, she joined Yohji Yamamoto as a designer and pattern maker, spending several years developing the technical discipline that would later define her independent work.
Park moved to New York in 2011 and joined Alexander Wang’s creative team, contributing to womenswear and special-event clothing. She later worked on tailoring at Calvin Klein 205W39NYC under Raf Simons and undertook freelance pattern-making for Proenza Schouler, Khaite and Nili Lotan; sources also record an earlier internship at Issey Miyake. These positions established a career built as much through construction and studio development as through visible authorship.
She founded Ashlyn in 2020 and completed its first collection for Autumn/Winter 2021 during pandemic factory closures. The label’s single-piece and low-waste cutting methods brought early acquisition by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, followed by the 2022 LVMH Prize final. In 2025 Park received the CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year award and won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund while continuing to direct Ashlyn.
Design ethos
Park treats pattern cutting as the source of silhouette. A shirt or dress may be draped from one continuous piece of fabric, while the Puzzle Project begins with rectangles and squares that are recombined into three-dimensional forms with little or no discarded fringe. Scraps are retained as internal padding, allowing waste reduction to determine structure rather than sit outside the design process.
Her clothes combine controlled tailoring with concentrated volume. Peplums, liquid balloon trousers, bustle-like dresses and rounded skirts are set against sharp jackets, sheer layers and compact knitwear. Park frequently begins with emotional or material references—hibernation, persimmon, Korean celadon or the moon jar—and resolves them through proportion, movement and the tension between restraint and release.
The studio method is iterative and product-minded. Garments are refined over extended periods, shown in a developed runway form and then translated into a high proportion of the commercial collection. Pre-order, made-to-order and limited New York production support this approach, while apprentices and junior pattern makers are drawn into the same cutting problems rather than separated from the technical work.

Career history
2025
Ashlyn won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund on 10 November 2025 and received $300,000 in support. The award followed Park’s CFDA Fashion Awards recognition one week earlier and supplied capital and mentorship without changing the label’s independent authorship.
2025
Park received the CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year award on 3 November 2025. The award followed several seasons in which Ashlyn’s peplums, rounded trousers and puzzle-based cutting had become identifiable parts of the New York runway calendar.
2024
Ashlyn introduced menswear for Autumn/Winter 2024 as an extension of Park’s tailoring practice. The category broadened the studio’s work across different bodies while retaining the main label’s construction methods and avoiding a separate subbrand structure.
2022
Ashlyn was selected as one of eight finalists for the 2022 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. The nomination recognised Park’s independent studio at the point when its zero-waste cutting, made-to-order production and sculptural womenswear had become a coherent public practice.
2021
Contemporary profiles report that the Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired three pieces from Ashlyn’s second collection in 2021, including a zero-waste shirt dress cut from a single piece of fabric. The acquisition gave the label unusually early institutional recognition for a construction method rather than a celebrity or commercial milestone.
2021
Ashlyn entered the public record with the Autumn/Winter 2021 Hibernation collection, completed largely by Park during pandemic factory closures. The self-produced debut introduced deconstructed tailoring, controlled volume and the technical restraint that would continue through the label’s later runway work.
2020
Park assumed continuing creative direction of Ashlyn from its foundation, overseeing design, pattern development and the studio’s production system. Her active remit spans womenswear and the menswear extension introduced later in the label’s development.
2020
Ashlynn Park established Ashlyn in New York in 2020 as an independently financed fashion label. The company began as a small founder-led studio built around Park’s pattern-cutting practice and limited production.
