Introduction
Beckett Fogg is an American fashion designer, executive and co-founder of Area. Raised in Lexington, Kentucky, she worked at Calvin Klein Collection before joining the first cohort of Parsons’ Fashion Design and Society MFA programme in New York. There she met Piotrek Panszczyk, and their shared experiments with embossed leather, recycled materials and altered surfaces developed into Area’s first products.
Fogg and Panszczyk formally launched Area in 2014. During the label’s early years she worked across design, textile development and business construction as the studio moved from small embossed T-shirts and lamé pieces into runway collections, accessories and an international wholesale business. Her role increasingly concentrated on strategy and operations while Panszczyk led seasonal creative direction, although the founder-era collections continued to reflect their shared material research.
By the 2025 succession, Fogg was Area’s chief executive and the continuing founder responsible for the company’s direction. She appointed Nicholas Aburn as creative director after Panszczyk’s departure and oversaw the label’s return to the runway for Spring 2026. Her career is therefore tied not only to Area’s original visual language but also to the organisational continuity that allowed the studio to move beyond its founding creative partnership.
Design ethos
Fogg’s design work is rooted in material transformation. Embossing, metallic surfaces, crystal systems and objects recovered from the studio are treated as starting points from which a garment, accessory or repeatable product can be engineered. The method values technical curiosity and visual impact but also asks whether an experimental surface can survive production, retail and repeated use.
As Area’s executive role became more prominent, her contribution shifted towards protecting the conditions in which that experimentation could continue. The separation of ready-to-wear and made-to-measure work, expansion of denim and accessories, and appointment of a successor creative director all reflect an approach in which business structure is used to preserve rather than neutralise the studio’s appetite for spectacle.

Career history
