Introduction
Danial Aitouganov is a Russian-born designer of Tatar descent and the co-founder of the Paris-based fashion label Zomer. An alumnus of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, he developed a rigorous technical foundation through senior design roles at several major luxury houses, including Burberry, Chloé, and Louis Vuitton. In 2023, he transitioned from these established institutions to launch his own creative venture alongside stylist Imruh Asha. Aitouganov’s work with Zomer was quickly recognized by the industry, earning the brand a place as a finalist for the 2025 LVMH Prize.
His career represents a deliberate move toward a more independent and experimental mode of fashion production. By combining his extensive experience in luxury garment construction with a desire for creative freedom, he has helped establish Zomer as a notable voice in the contemporary Parisian scene. His work is celebrated for its joyful and non-hierarchical approach to design, focusing on the collaboration between diverse creative disciplines. Aitouganov continues to be a central figure in the emergence of new, conceptually driven luxury brands.
Design ethos
A gleefully childlike approach to design prioritises joy, warmth, and the experimental use of primary colours within the framework of high-quality luxury. The work focuses on the creation of unconventional silhouettes that challenge the traditional, linear fashion cycle through a collaborative and non-hierarchical creative process. This analytical engagement with the abject and the playful manifests in asymmetrical designs and unexpected material combinations. By moving away from established institutional norms, the design signals a commitment to creative freedom and the celebration of the 'imperfect' and the experimental.
Technical excellence derived from years of experience in major luxury houses is used to support these avant-garde explorations, ensuring that even the most playful designs maintain a high standard of construction. The focus remains on the tangible quality of the craft and the emotional impact of the final object. This methodology results in a design language that is both rebellious and sophisticated, offering a distinct alternative to the homogeneity of the mainstream market. The final collections represent a synthesis of rigorous couture training and a contemporary, inclusive creative worldview.
