
Introduction
Dario Vitale is a designer whose Versace appointment followed his role as Design and Image Director of Miu Miu. Capri Holdings announced him as Versace Chief Creative Officer on 13 March 2025, effective 1 April. He was the first person outside the Versace family publicly appointed to the house-wide top creative role; earlier non-family designers had led divisions and collaborations.
His public Versace work comprised preview dressing, Versace Embodied Chapter One, the Greca eyewear campaign and Spring/Summer 2026. The joint women’s and men’s collection was presented at Pinacoteca Ambrosiana on 26 September 2025 and remained his first and only runway collection for the house.
Prada Group completed its acquisition of Versace on 2 December 2025. Vitale’s departure was announced on 4 December and became effective on 12 December. The Spring/Summer 2026 campaign, released in February 2026, retained his creative-direction credit and should not be reassigned to his successor.
Design ethos
At Versace, Vitale worked from late-1980s and early-1990s archive material while moving the image toward lived-in daywear, domestic staging, layered styling and a less formalised sexuality. The collection retained metal mesh, leather, vivid colour, tailoring and body exposure without reproducing the house’s most familiar red-carpet formula.
His image direction used commissioned photography, poetry, illustration and film in Versace Embodied, portrait-based eyewear imagery for Greca and multiple photographers for the Spring/Summer 2026 campaign. These projects establish image authorship but do not prove personal design of every licensed product.
