Kihachiro Onitsuka

Kihachiro Onitsuka was a Japanese entrepreneur and the founder of Onitsuka Co., Ltd., the company that would eventually become the global sportswear giant ASICS. Born in Tottori Prefecture in 1918, he established his business in 1949 with a mission to promote youth health and well-being through sport in the aftermath of World War II. He is famously credited with several landmark innovations in athletic footwear, including the 'Mexico 66' design and the pioneering 'suction cup' basketball shoe.
