Introduction
Limi Yamamoto is a Japanese fashion designer whose career began inside the Y’s atelier. Public histories place her at Yohji Yamamoto Inc. from 1996 as a patternmaker, followed by her 1999 appointment to the new Y’s bis LIMI line and a first Tokyo collection in 2000. The label was renamed LIMI feu in 2002, the identity under which her work has continued.
LIMI feu remained separately authored even while operating within a connected company structure. In the 2009 reconstruction, contemporary corporate notices identified her—also rendered as Satomi Yamamoto—as the brand’s chief designer and transferred Limi Yamamoto Inc. into the new group as a subsidiary. Her first securely verified Paris runway was Spring/Summer 2008, shown on 5 October 2007.
Design ethos
Yamamoto’s work uses black, white and controlled flashes of colour across tailoring, layered dresses, boots and compact outerwear. Proportion is often shortened, widened or sharply interrupted, producing a tougher relation to the body than the flowing volume commonly associated with the wider Yohji system.
Her formation in patternmaking remains visible in cut and assembly, but LIMI feu is not a diffusion of her father’s collections. The label works through its own balance of uniform, subculture, utility and romantic detail, with independent authorship preserved even when production, retail or administration intersects with the group.

Career history
2002
Y’s bis LIMI adopted the LIMI feu name in 2002 while retaining Limi Yamamoto’s separate design authorship. The current identity is securely anchored by the brand’s later twentieth-anniversary archive, beginning with Autumn/Winter 2002–03.
