Mikael Schiller

Mikael Schiller is a Swedish fashion executive and entrepreneur who became Jonny Johansson’s principal business partner in the development of Acne Studios. He joined the wider ACNE business in the early 2000s, initially working on its financial position as the collective’s rapid growth and multiple companies created an unstable operating structure.

Schiller helped negotiate the restructuring, financing and buyout that concentrated the business around fashion. He subsequently served in senior executive roles and is now identified as Acne Studios’ executive chair and co-owner, with Schiller and Johansson together retaining a controlling majority stake.

His work has included the company’s international retail strategy, investment structure and protection of creative control as Acne Studios expanded across Europe, Asia and North America. That partnership allowed the company to accept minority investment in 2018 without becoming a subsidiary of a larger fashion conglomerate.

Schiller’s contribution is expressed through organisational design rather than garment authorship. The company’s growth has favoured controlled expansion, distinctive sites and long-term creative independence over rapid standardisation.

Retail decisions have supported the brand’s cultural positioning: unusual addresses, commissioned interiors and the reuse of existing architecture create stores that do not read as interchangeable luxury units. Financial structure is used to preserve the conditions in which that spatial and creative experimentation can continue.

This role should be distinguished from Jonny Johansson’s design authorship while recognising that Acne Studios’ present scale and independence depend on their continuing partnership.
