Introduction
Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski is a French designer who has served as the Artistic Director of Women’s Ready-to-Wear at Hermès since 2014. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, she developed a rigorous and minimalist aesthetic through senior roles at some of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses, including Maison Martin Margiela, Céline under Phoebe Philo, and The Row.
Since joining Hermès, she has been praised for her quiet, disciplined approach to luxury, successfully maintaining the house’s heritage while introducing a modern, understated elegance. Her work is characterized by an obsession with material quality and a deep respect for the artisanal traditions that define the Parisian house.
Design ethos
The design philosophy is defined by a sense of 'timelessness' and a deep reverence for the Hermès heritage of leather-working and equestrian craft. This ethos prioritises utility and the use of noble materials, where every detail is considered for its functional and tactile value. The work focuses on precise, rigorous tailoring and a rejection of overt trends in favour of refined proportions and a sophisticated, often earthy, colour palette.
Sensuality is achieved through the subtle handling of materials and a focus on the 'equestrian' silhouette, reimagined for a modern, global context. The work explores the relationship between structure and softness, using high-grade leathers and silks to create garments of lasting value. By maintaining a disciplined aesthetic, the collections celebrate a quiet form of luxury that relies on impeccable construction and the inherent beauty of the finest textiles.
