Philip Joseph

Philip Joseph is a London-based architect and co-founder of P.Joseph, the architecture and design practice established in 2014 with his twin brother Peter Joseph. He studied architecture at the Royal College of Art, where he met Erdem Moralıoğlu in the early 2000s. P.Joseph works across residential, retail, cultural and workplace projects, with architecture, interiors and furniture developed as a single spatial language.

Joseph’s fashion-related work includes the MatchesFashion flagship at 5 Carlos Place in London, completed in 2018, alongside private residential projects and a growing body of retail design. His work frequently begins with existing buildings and period interiors, using conservation, bespoke furniture and new architectural interventions to preserve a sense of accumulated history while adapting the space for contemporary use.

ERDEM has become Joseph’s longest-running fashion collaboration. He designed the first South Audley Street flagship in 2015 and subsequently led the architecture for the brand’s stores at Shinsegae Gangnam and Shinsegae Main in Seoul and its second London store on Sloane Street in 2025. Across these locations he has translated Moralıoğlu’s changing fictional customer into permanent environments built from domestic scale, art, furniture, historic fabric and restrained modern detailing.

Joseph approaches architecture as a complete interior world. Structure, furniture, lighting, materials and objects are composed together so that circulation and atmosphere feel continuous. His spaces often preserve the marks of age in existing buildings, allowing repaired floors, mouldings and masonry to remain legible alongside precise contemporary insertions.

Material choices tend toward stone, timber, brass, plaster, textiles and purpose-made furniture with an emphasis on tactile durability. The work uses detail to create mood at close range: thresholds, joinery, lighting and domestic-scaled rooms make large retail or residential projects feel inhabited and personal.

For ERDEM, Joseph turns a fashion identity built around memory and character into architecture. South Audley Street reads as a private residence; Sloane Street was conceived as an artist’s studio. The stores hold art, furniture and period references as part of the customer experience, giving the brand a permanent spatial vocabulary that can evolve across cities.
