Introduction
Renuka Kimber is co-founder of Christian Kimber and a central strategic and organisational figure in the Melbourne menswear business. When she and Christian returned to Australia from London in 2011, she framed the opportunity as a combination of his design knowledge with her commercial experience, audience understanding and storytelling. Her authorship sits in the structure around the product: brand strategy, communication, growth and the organisation required to turn a small footwear offer into a broader menswear house.
Across the label’s expansion, Kimber has remained involved as the business moved from online and wholesale sales into owned retail, ready-to-wear and a wider European production network. The Fitzroy, Armadale and Melbourne CBD stores each increased the importance of direct customer contact, while later tailoring and customisation services brought product development and client service closer together. Her role is documented across strategy, storytelling, leadership and production without transferring Christian Kimber’s garment-design authorship to her.
By the mid-2020s Kimber was also credited as a producer on current fashion presentations, including Resort '27, and the Australian Fashion Council identified her as a member of the Australian Fashion Week Executive Board in 2026. She continues as Christian Kimber’s co-founder, connecting the house’s creative output with retail, production, presentation and the wider Australian fashion industry.
Design ethos
Renuka Kimber’s working approach centres on building the conditions in which the label’s design can operate coherently. She has described the business through audience, storytelling and commercial structure, keeping customer behaviour, production realities and the long-term identity of the house connected as the label moved from footwear into a complete menswear wardrobe.
Direct retail has been an important part of that approach. The expansion from Fitzroy to Armadale and then Little Collins Street gave the business more control over service, fit and the way collections are explained to clients; the latest flagship also incorporated alterations, customisation and tailoring consultation. Her production role on runway presentations extends the same organisational discipline into how the brand appears publicly.
The result is an operational practice built around continuity and measured growth. Wholesale, own stores, seasonal collections, recurring product programmes and made-to-measure are treated as connected parts of one business, with expansion tied to customer use and the practical capacity of the label instead of pursuing scale for its own sake.
