Sébastien Meyer

Sébastien Meyer is a French designer and co-founder of Coperni. His career joins independent brand building to a period of joint artistic direction at Courrèges, where he and Arnaud Vaillant were appointed to lead womenswear in May 2015. Coperni was suspended during the appointment and later returned as a separate company.

At Courrèges, Meyer and Vaillant held equal public titles and shared collection credit. Their five-output sequence ran from Spring 2016 to Fall 2017 and reintroduced named seasonal leadership after the house’s product-led relaunch. They left in July 2017; the Spring 2018 collection belonged to an in-house team.

Meyer’s later Coperni work has been associated with clean product definition, technical experiments and image formats designed for rapid circulation. Those traits should not be projected backwards as sole authorship of the Courrèges collections, which were institutionally joint.

Meyer works through controlled geometry, concise product categories and technical surface. At Courrèges, the collection system was organised by garment type and material, using heated outerwear, welding, computer-assisted processes, three-dimensional printing and reflective synthetics alongside familiar jackets, shifts and miniskirts.

At Coperni, clothing and public image are closely coordinated, with construction, product demonstration and digital circulation treated as one design field. The emphasis stays on a quickly legible silhouette and a limited number of forceful technical gestures; dense ornament plays little role.
