Overview
Farage is an Australian fashion label founded in Sydney in 1998 by Joe and Katy Farage. It began as a menswear business in the Strand Arcade, built around tailored shirts and suiting, before expanding into womenswear in 2003. The founders developed the label through direct retail, in-house Sydney shirtmaking, specialist European tailoring and an e-commerce channel introduced in 2008.
Alongside seasonal ready-to-wear and made-to-measure clothing, Farage built a substantial corporate wardrobe practice. By 2009 the company was operating a dedicated uniform design and manufacturing division; later projects included formalwear for the Sydney Swans, a complete wardrobe for Royal Australian Air Force 33 and 34 Squadrons in 2018, and non-combat garments for the Australian Defence Force under a 2019 contract. Growth in this work contributed to expanded local manufacturing and the 2023 opening of Farage House at 109 Riley Street, combining retail, tailoring, creative offices and headquarters functions.
Farage remains under the joint creative leadership of its founders. Joe Farage is creative director and the current menswear designer, while Katy Farage is co-creative director. The label entered the Australian Fashion Week runway schedule in 2025 with Summer 26 Runway and returned in 2026 with the menswear collection Farage Forward, extending a business that continues to span men’s and women’s clothing, made-to-measure services, accessories and corporate wardrobes.
Philosophy
Farage is grounded in tailoring, with fit, shirt construction, fabric selection and small adjustments of proportion treated as the basis of the product. The original menswear proposition centred on a slim, tailored shirt and developed into suiting and formalwear; womenswear broadened that system in 2003, bringing faster product development and more frequent pattern work into the studio.
The label combines local and specialist production rather than presenting one manufacturing method as universal. Shirts remain closely associated with Farage’s Sydney manufacturing base, while selected tailoring and accessories use European makers and textiles. Across both systems, material choice is tied to the intended use of the garment, from refined wool tailoring to performance blends developed for institutional clothing.
That practical discipline has become increasingly visible in Farage’s public fashion work. Uniform projects placed durability, movement and service requirements alongside the house’s formal vocabulary, while Farage Forward moved menswear between trench coats, bombers, pea coats, fluid shirting, cummerbund styling and metallic evening tailoring. The result is a design approach that treats utility and polish as compatible parts of the same wardrobe.

Button TextFarage opened Farage House at 109 Riley Street, Darlinghurst, in July 2023 as a five-level flagship and headquarters developed with Greg Natale. Moving creative, marketing and office teams from the Surry Hills factory into the new building freed production space as corporate apparel had grown to roughly half of company turnover.
The Australian Defence Force contracted Farage in 2019 to design and produce several non-combat corporate garments. The work included the tri-service General Duty dress issued from October 2020 and selected men’s and women’s trench coats, extending the label’s uniform practice beyond its earlier RAAF squadron wardrobe.
Farage designed and manufactured a complete wardrobe for the men and women of Royal Australian Air Force 33 and 34 Squadrons in 2018. The Australian-made, Merino wool-rich system covered tailoring, shirts, dresses, outerwear and accessories while balancing military references with durability and practical movement.
Quentin Hart began consulting on Farage menswear in 2011, working across creative direction, design and development without displacing the founders' house-level creative authority. The long-running role predates his separate 2019 co-foundation of Two.One with Joe Farage and establishes a direct Hart–Farage relationship in its own right.
Farage began a long-running formalwear and sponsorship relationship with the Sydney Swans around 2008–2010, supplying event suits for players, coaches and staff rather than on-field kit. The partnership became a durable extension of the house’s tailoring business and was renewed in 2024 through the end of 2028.
Farage expanded into womenswear in 2003 under the joint direction of Joe and Katy Farage and opened its first women’s store in the Strand Arcade. The new category required faster product development and more frequent pattern work, broadening the operating rhythm of the originally menswear-led business.
Joe and Katy Farage founded Farage in Sydney in 1998, launching an initially menswear-focused business from the Strand Arcade around tailored shirts and suiting. The brand’s public foundation predates the later Farage Pty Limited company entity and established the founder partnership that still leads the house.
