Introduction
Drew Henry is a South African fashion designer from Mpumalanga. He studied at LISOF in Johannesburg and completed the Central Saint Martins MA Fashion programme in 2014 under Louise Wilson. During his studies he interned at Celine in 2011; after graduation he joined Phoebe Philo’s design team full-time and remained with the house through 2018.
Henry became design director of ready-to-wear at JW Anderson from 2018 to 2020, then served as head of design for the launch of Phoebe Philo’s namesake label until April 2023. He joined Burberry as senior design director under Daniel Lee later that year. These studio positions placed him inside a connected Celine network while leaving collection authorship with each house.
Courrèges announced Henry as artistic director on 30 March 2026, effective in May. The appointment is his first publicly named leadership of a fashion house. By 15 July 2026, no collection, product or campaign credited to him had been released; his first runway was scheduled for Paris Fashion Week in September.
Design ethos
Henry’s 2014 graduate collection reduced military and workwear forms into substantial wool and deer hide, using material weight and pattern discipline to give useful garments a forceful line. That individually credited work offers the clearest public view of his construction-led training.
At Celine, Henry moved from a 2011 internship to full-time work in Phoebe Philo’s studio after graduation, remaining through 2018. The position placed him inside a system organised around proportion, material and functional wardrobe design, but the available credits do not support assigning him individual authorship of its collections.
His later work at JW Anderson, Phoebe Philo and Burberry also developed inside senior design teams where public attribution remained institutional. At his Courrèges appointment he described an interest in clothing that is modern, useful and direct. A broader public design language will become legible with his first collection for the house.
